Pretty much every month we have a maintenance session where something gets fixed, improved upon, or removed altogether. I will be posting the Tech Tips as we go over them.

Headlight Motor Maintenance - If your lights don't go up, the problem is most likely the three plastic spacers inside the motor housing. The motors themselves rarely go bad, but the spacers tend to dry rot and get warped over time, which causes the motor to spin but the lamps to stay flush with the hood or "flutter." GM will only sell you a replacement motor, which can run upwards of $150 if you buy it at a dealership. And most likely you need two, so you're looking at $300 plus installation. However, just buying the spacers (I bought mine from Rodney Dickman - see the links page) for $8 and the install took me less than 45 minutes; and I am not very mechanically advanced. Full write up details and a how-to are pending, but I need to consult with Mike, the guy that did the tech tip to begin with, so stay tuned.

O² Sensor Replacement - If your car isn't getting very good gas mileage, one of the culprits could be a bad O² Sensor. The O² Sensor is about $20 and takes less than five minutes to change, is in a location that is easy to reach, and chances are your O² Sensor hasn't been replaced in years. More how-to to come.

Stay Tuned.
